AirFest – It's gonna be loud

Residents around South Tampa and the MacDill Air Force Base area should expect some loud noise over the next few days as aircraft arrive for AirFest, base officials warned.

The biannual airshow returns this weekend, but the skies will be busier – and louder – earlier in the week as the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels and other aircraft arrive.

In addition to the Blue Angels, the Air Force’s F-22 and A-10 teams will be performing, along with a number of civilian planes and jets. Even the Goodyear Blimp will be puttering through the air this year.

The Blue Angels are scheduled to roar in to Tampa on Thursday afternoon.  Practice for the show will be throughout the day on Friday, then the airshow itself will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Thousands of people usually flock to the South Tampa base for AirFest, which hasn’t featured the Blue Angels in several years. Gates open both days at 8 a.m. but may close early if the base reaches capacity.
