Bedminster, NJ braces for President Trump

A tony town in Somerset County, New Jersey, could become the weekend retreat of President Donald Trump and his family this summer as they ditch the heat of Mar-a-Lago, Florida, for the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

So what does the influx of a presidential team and Secret Service agents mean for the small town?

Mayor Steven Parker isn't certain.

"We are all flattered that the President likes Bedminster as much as we do. We're not sure exactly what kind of press and people might come out. We saw a little taste of that in November, but that was just a long weekend. I guess we'll just have to wait and see," Parker told Good Day New York co-hosts Rosanna Scotto and Greg Kelly.

Bedminster Police and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office have been working with the Secret Service to secure the area.

"I think we're well prepared," said Parker.

One thing is certain, Bedminster will get plenty of attention.

"We'll go down like Crawford, Texas; Plains, Georgia; and Kennebunkport, Maine. It will put us on the map," added Parker.

It will also hurt, financially, unless the town is reimbursed by the federal government.

Assuming Trump spends up to eight weekends in NJ this summer, the extra expense could run $300,000.

"Any little bump in our budget becomes a big bump in the budget. It becomes an issue for a small town with a two percent tax cap," said Parker.

Traffic, which was heavy during Trump's November visit to the golf course, might not be so bad come this summer.

"He'll likely come in by air and I don't think will bother the people on the roads much," said Parker.
