Behind-the-scenes of Chicago is 'all that jazz'

She's the ultimate femme fatale who has helped Chicago be one of the most successful musicals of all time: Roxie Hart.

The show's dance captain David Bushman says this woman has kept Chicago on Broadway for 19 years, in spite of the star role being given to various different celebrities throughout the years.

As the story goes, she was married to a mechanic, killed her lover because he was going to leave her, went to jail, and became a celebrity.

"You have to have empathy for her throughout whole show," says Bushman.

What makes Chicago such a dream for dancers is the dance is an integral part of telling Roxie's story.

"I really love Chicago because of what dancers bring to the story of the show. It's not often that dancers actually get to be such an integral of telling the story.  All choreography serves that," Bushman explained.

Roxie may be the star, but the men are powerhouses. And they make her look fabulous. "The work that the men do in the show, really do frame Roxie really well. It's like hotness dripping all over the place, especially in this number," Bushman said.

Bushman gave insight into Roxie's routines and when in Roxie's life it takes place. "She kills her lover, ends up in jail. She lands Billy Flynn. Her name is all over the paper and she thinks 'oh my god my dream is going to come true'."

There are 8 shows a week, so everyone needs to be on their a-game.

Bushman says it's just like an Olympic sport; it just doesn't get the respect it deserves.
