Brush fires in New Jersey

Brush fires sent thick smoke over New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon. The fires burned in Secaucus and Kearny.

The smoke could be seen for miles and affected train service in and out of Manhattan. All Amtrak and NJ Transit service between Newark and New York was suspended for a few hours. Both railroads were restored but were experiencing severe delays.

A Red Flag Warning was up until 8 p.m. due to conditions that were favorable for rapid fire spread.  Winds were forecast to be 10-20 MPH with guest of up to 25 MPH.
