Burglar breaks into home, eats food before stealing car

A Hampton man is behind bars after being charged with burglary and theft following an incident on January 25.

The suspect was caught eating in a woman's kitchen after breaking into her home, he thanked her but proceeded to steal her car when he was leaving. 

Jason Duke, 35, now faces charges of burglary with theft by taking, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. 

Deputies say the woman woke up around 11:15 p.m.when she spotted Duke eating in the kitchen area. 

After being asked to leave, Duke told the woman, "Thanks for keeping me warm," and he walked out of the home, according to deputies.

Deputies were called a short time later once the woman noticed her Ford vehicle was gone. 

Investigators discovered a phone, 65 dollars, and car keys were missing. 

According to the Fayette County Sheriff's the missing vehicle was found in Spalding County on January 29. Duke was later arrested on January 31 in McDonough.
