City leaders release summary of RNC contract

Charlotte leaders have released the contract they could potentially sign for the Republican National Convention ahead of Monday's vote.

The document was shared Sunday night. The contract states the convention would happen in either July or August of 2020, federal funding would be provided for security, and the main event would be held at the Spectrum Center.

However, the RNC cannot run smoothly without the support of the City. Charlotte council members will hold a special meeting on Monday to talk about if they'll approve the contract.

Mayor Vi Lyles is fully behind Charlotte welcoming the convention. She said the convention is most likely happening in the Queen City, who is competing with Las Vegas as the host.

The Republican National Convention is expected to announce their location officially this week. Charlotte City Council's vote would come ahead of the official announcement and requires a minimum of six votes.
