The Cape May Police Department says it has reunited a pug with its owner but not before 'taking in' the dog and 'booking' it.

"This is what happens when you run away from home. This guy was captured sneaking through yards on the 1300 block on New Jersey Avenue. #pugmug," the Department wrote on its Facebook page.

Cape May Patrolman Michael LeSage found Bean the pug in a yard on Sunday. He tells The Star-Ledger of Newark he tried to get the dog to hop into his police car, but her legs were too short so he had to lift her.

'Bean' appeared to have been placed in a cell while officers searched for its owner.

Later on the same day, the department wrote: "Update - the pug’s owner has been located and he has been released on bail."

The following day, Bean was released after paying her bail in cookies.

Hadley Hubbard of Baltimore, Maryland, thanked police and posted that Bean was sound asleep after an exciting run.
