FBI: Kidnapping suspect shot and killed in New Jersey

The FBI says a man was shot and killed in New Jersey on Wednesday morning as agents were investigating the kidnapping of a 17-year-old boy.

The FBI Newark and Philadelphia Field Offices were involved in an operation to rescue the boy in Leonia at around 6 a.m.

They say that during a confrontation with the suspect he was shot and killed.

The boy was safely freed in the incident.  He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and later released.

No law enforcement was injured in the operation.

The FBI's Inspection Division is reviewing the shooting, as is required by department protocol.

Leonia is in Bergen County, just west of New York City.
