There's been buzz around NYC lately about a strange rental trend on Airbnb. The listing is titled van down by the river and boasts a rental on wheels that sleeps two and has a view of the city skyline.
We scoped out the shoreline in Long Island City and in a parking lot meant for the East River Ferry and located one of these vans for rent. It was blocks from a bathroom, had a view of the city, matched the pictures and undoubtedly had a luxurious interior as posted.
We also explored an Airbnb rental on the high seas, Far Rockaway to be exact, a houseboat dreamed up by Architect Philipp Mohr.
This floating oasis shot up in popularity on Airbnb and was even named the No. 1 overnight stay destination in the world. It has a full working kitchen and bathroom as well as an unheard of boat air conditioning system and all the flair you can imagine. At $125 a night it's also less than half the price of the only hotel on the the Rockaway strip, the Playland motel which runs $300 nightly.
