Man arrested after police find dead baby in car
GREENVILLE, Ga. - A man is behind bars after authorities found a 10-month-old baby dead in the back of a car during a traffic stop in Greenville, Georgia.
At around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, investigators said officers pulled over 22-year-old Cameron Reese for speeding. He ran from the car and that's when police found the little girl named Ayla.
Police said Reese had been watching the baby at home when he contacted Ayla's mother, 19-year-old Nikia Reeves, to say the child wasn't breathing.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said when the mother arrived home to 738 North Depot Street, she was suspicious of Reese's behavior. Reese, Reeves, and the baby then left the home in a car where, according to the GBI, the mother questioned Reese about a mark under Ayla's eye.
Investigators said Reese pulled out a steak knife, then the baby's mother jumped out of the car and suffered severe road rash.
The Meriwether Sheriff's Office responded to a stolen baby call.
According to the GBI, Reese was tracked down by a Department of Corrections canine to North Depot Street where he was arrested.
Reese has been charged with aggravated assault and concealing the death of another.
