Man shot by deputy dies after Brevard Co. chase
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - The Brevard County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a deputy shot and killed a suspect behind the wheel.
It happened on Sunday near Viera Boulevard and U.S. 1 in Rockledge.
But, investigators say it started on Parkway Drive and U.S. 1 in Melbourne when a deputy tried to pull over a driver who was driving erratically.
Officials say a chase ensued and a pit maneuver later stopped the vehicle.
When a deputy approached, officials say the driver acted in a way that allowed the deputy to fear for his safety, prompting him to shoot.
The suspect was taken to the hospital, where investigators say he died.
The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave, per protocol.
