Man wanted in New Jersey slaying struck by NYC subway

NEW YORK (AP) — A man suspected of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the driveway of her New Jersey home needed surgery after he jumped in front of a New York City subway.

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says 44-year-old Arthur Lomando sustained severe injuries to his head and legs after he threw himself in front of the train in Manhattan on Thursday night.

Lomando was taken to Harlem Hospital. His condition is not known.

Earlier in the day, the prosecutor says Lomando attacked and killed his ex-girlfriend with a machete-like knife. Forty-eight-year-old Suzanne Bardzell had just pulled into the driveway of her Midland Park home and died at the scene.

Molinelli says there was a history of domestic violence between Lomando and Bardzell. They had dated for about three years after meeting online.
