NJ restaurateur ponders role in Christie ad

Leo Cervantes says his life is the American Dream.

Born in Mexico City into a life of poverty, he got his visa on the third try, and when he was just 18-years-old he came to America.

"I come from the outskirts of Mexico City, you know, poverty. A garbage dump across the street from our house. Cardboard roof house. No shoes sometimes. No food sometimes," Cervantes said.

He's now a successful owner of Chilango's, a restaurant in Keansburg, NJ, and is featured in a "Chris Christie for President" advertisement, and he was surprised to find himself there.

He did, however, agree to be in a commercial during the governor's re-election campaign, and he signed an agreement that gave the campaign permission to use the material in the future.

Cervantes found out about it from a friend who saw the commercial. But he does admit to liking the commercial.

“It says right on the bottom, Leadership. Leadership. I'm standing like that and Chilango's is behind me. It was like a chef's coat, and I was like, I was the first one, you know, showing on the commercial. And I was like, my mom is going to be so proud of me," Cervantes explained.

He also mentioned that he isn't sure if he's voting for the governor just yet.

He is proud to be an American and takes his vote very seriously. He's going to take his time to decide.

"I know where I'm at. I know where I'm standing. This is the greatest country in the world. A lot of people don't know it. I do, and I take advantage of it," Cervantes said.
