Police: $100K worth of film equipment stolen
ATLANTA - A film crew lost $100,000 worth of equipment when thieves broke into their SUV late Thursday night.
Atlanta Police responded to the back parking lot of the Paris at Ponce Antique Mall just before midnight Thursday. They found a large white SUV that had been broken into.
Officers told FOX 5 News the vehicle was being used by a movie crew and was filled with equipment. We don't know why the SUV was parked in the lot, if the crew was shooting at the time or what project they're working on.
Crew members were at the scene, which is located across the street from the old Kroger and just down the street from Ponce City Market. No one appeared to be injured.
The crew members didn't want to talk to FOX 5 about what happened.
In 2016, Georgia overtook California as the state location with the most feature films produced. Since the passage of a film tax credit in 2002, the state has become home to several major movie studios filming shows such as The Walking Dead and Stranger Things, and films such as Baby Driver and Fast Five.
