Police: DC mother shot while shielding baby daughter in stroller from gunfire
WASHINGTON - D.C. police say a woman was shot while trying to protect her baby.
The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of Hartford Street in Southeast D.C.
According to the police report, the 36-year-old mother was pushing her 1-year-old daughter in a stroller on the sidewalk when she heard several gunshots. That is when she jumped on top of her daughter to shield her from the gunfire. The mother suffered gunshot wounds to her right abdomen and her right back area.
The victim was conscious and breathing at the scene and was transported to the hospital for treatment. She returned home from the hospital Friday evening.
The 1-year-old girl was not injured during the shooting.
