Officials investigate car down embankment in Glen Ridge

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a crash involving a vehicle that careened off the road, went down an embankment, and landed on its side in Glen Ridge. There are unconfirmed reports of multiple fatalities.

It is not clear what caused the wreck at about 5 a.m. Tuesday. Published reports indicate there was a police pursuit following an armed robbery that lead to the crash.

At least two people inside the vehicle were killed, according to a report in the NY Post.

The incident occurred near the NJ Transit Glen Ridge train station, a local high school, elementary school, and the district’s board of education building.

Police closed off Bloomfield Avenue between Ridgewood and Hillside Avenues. It was reopened in the early afternoon.

The NJ Attorney General's Office is also involved in the investigation.
