Resident paints curb yellow to protect driveway

Sea Isle City is a small town in the winter that swells into a big tourist destination every summer. We all know that parking can be difficult to come by. Well, one resident, David Garrison, reportedly took this issue into his own hands.

Garrison painted yellow lines on the curb around his driveway to keep people from blocking it.

The city responded by painting over the illegal lines with gray paint.

Garrison’s neighbor Jason Baccaro defended Garrison and claims that he had good reason to paint the lines.

“He did it because people were parking straight across his driveway,” Baccaro said.

And now that the yellow lines are gone, it's back to normal.  People park in the space that overlaps Garrison's driveway to go to the coffee shop across the street.

The coffee shop had no comment, but people in the neighborhood were asked about the practice and the views were mixed.

“I’m glad the city is painting over the yellow lines that the citizens painted,” said Tim Hagarty.

“There's a lot of people down here. I mean sometimes when you need your parking you need your parking, you know,” said Jack Russo, “I think it's funny, but you can't be going around painting curbs.”

Garrison reportedly had to pay a $50 fine, $40 in restitution and $33 in court costs.
