Strong winds caused a commotion in Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and isolated thunderstorms were anticipated on Monday across northern Illinois. It was also expected to bring wind gusts of up to 50 mph. Even after the showers were done, wind gusts were projected to stay around the same throughout the night.

In the village of Alsip, the canopy at a Citgo gas station collapsed. The Alsip Fire Department shared photos of the pancaked gas pumps located at West 117th Street and South Pulaski Road. There were at least two vehicles crushed under the canopy. Fortunately, there were no injuries.

According to the CBS affiliate in Chicago, high winds were a contributing factor in the collapse, as well as snapping a flag pole in half at Schubert Elementary School.

The wind advisory remained in effect into Tuesday morning.
