HOUSTON - It sounds crazy but it's true, exercising too much can sometimes make you sick.
After a 90-minute weight-lifting session last week 17-year-old Jared Shamburger from Houston says he was "super duper sore."
His mother called the doctor and it turns out she was right to be concerned.
Jared was hospitalized for five days with rhabdomyolysis, a condition that could have killed him.
The condition can be caused by many things including injury, infection and, yes, hitting the gym too hard.
"If he hadn't caught it, if he hadn't told me, if we had just gone out of town and gone about our way, I can't even imagine and I don't want to think about what could've happened," Jared's mother Judy Shamburger said.
Jared is expected to make a full recovery.
He says he plans to get back in the gym soon.
