Workers scramble as crane topples at SPPD construction site
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - A crane collapse this morning halted work at the construction site of the new St. Petersburg Police Department headquarters.
The view from the department's live webcam showed what appeared to be a crane laying diagonally across the site. Video from the police department shows the crane toppling over onto its side, before collapsing and creating a small cloud of dirt.
Workers in the video can be seen running out of the way as the crane plummets to the ground, sending up a cloud of dust. There are no reported injuries.
FOX 13's Dan Matics reports that the collapse is contained to the site and is not interfering with traffic along First Avenue N.
