NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Rangers have re-signed restricted free agent forward Oscar Lindberg. Lindberg had 28 goals and 28 assists in 75 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack this past season, establishing AHL career-highs in goals, assists, points, power play goals and shots on goal. He tied AHL career-highs in games played and game-winning goals.
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils have re-signed defenseman Eric Gelinas to a two-year, $3.15 million contract. The team had maintained its rights to the restricted free agent by making a qualifying offer late last month. Gelinas led all New Jersey defensemen with six goals, playing in a career-high 61 games last season.
BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Celtics have acquired forward Perry Jones III from the Oklahoma City Thunder along with a second-round draft pick and cash. The Celtics will send the Thunder a conditional second-round pick. Boston gets the 2019 second-rounder Oklahoma City had acquired from the Detroit Pistons.
DALLAS (AP) — Deron Williams has joined his hometown Mavericks after Brooklyn bought out the contract the point guard signed when he spurned Dallas to stay with the Nets three years ago. Williams signed a two-year, $10 million deal yesterday. He has a player option in the second year.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The Orlando Magic have taken a step to improve their front court play by signing free agent center Jason Smith. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 29-year-old Smith is entering his eighth NBA season and joins his fourth NBA team. He spent last season with the New York Knicks, averaging eight points and four rebounds.
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — The Minnesota Lynx beat Connecticut 85-79 last night, sending the Sun to their fourth straight loss. Maya Moore scored 26 points, and Seimone Augustus had 21 for Minnesota. Alex Bentley hit four 3-pointers and finished with 22 points for Connecticut, which was 11 of 23 from 3-point range.
NEW YORK (AP) — Elena Delle Donne is the leading vote-getter for the WNBA All-Star Game. The league's leading scorer will be joined on the Eastern Conference team by Indiana's Tamika Catchings, who will be playing in a record 10th All-Star Game. New York's Tina Charles is the third member of the front court on the east team.
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — The WNBA's Connecticut Sun has become the latest franchise to feature a corporate logo on the front of its jerseys. The team says it has signed a marquee sponsorship deal with Frontier Communications that calls for the company's logo on the team's jerseys as well as on signage throughout the Mohegan Sun arena.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — This year's U.S. Open men's and women's singles champions will each earn a record $3.3 million, up 10 percent from 2014. The U.S. Tennis Association says the total tournament purse will be $42.3 million, a 10.5 percent increase from a year ago.
