Storm caused severe erosion to many New Jersey beaches

BAY HEAD, N.J. (AP) — Days of gusting wind and pounding surf have caused severe beach erosion in many spots along the New Jersey shore. Some beaches, including ones devastated by Superstorm Sandy and not yet replenished since the storm three years ago, appeared to have lost most of their sand. And in many places where protective dunes stood between the ocean and homes, the surf cut large cliffs into the sand, leaving drop-offs of up to 10 feet.

2 New York City men indicted in New Jersey home burglaries

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) — Two New York City men have been indicted in a series of burglaries in nine central New Jersey communities. The 142-count indictment handed up Tuesday by a Middlesex County grand jury charges Felix Bruno and Anthony Goodwine with theft, burglary and conspiracy. It was made public on Wednesday. Prosecutors say the two men from the Bronx committed the burglaries between December 2013 and August 2014, collecting more than $850,000 in cash and jewelry.

George Washington Bridge lanes to close starting Monday

FORT LEE, N.J. (AP) — Construction will force motorists driving into New York on the George Washington Bridge to use the upper level during overnight hours. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the lower level eastbound lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Monday through Thursday. They'll be closed from 11 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. on Saturday.

Whole Foods to cut about 1,500 jobs over next 8 weeks

NEW YORK (AP) — Grocery chain Whole Foods is cutting about 1,500 jobs over the next eight weeks as it looks to lower prices and keep up with competition. The cuts represent about 1.6 percent of its workforce. But Whole Foods Market Inc. said in a regulatory filing on Monday that many of the reductions will come through attrition.

Giant dinosaur inspiration for new NYC exhibit

NEW YORK (AP) — The American Museum of Natural History in New York has no shortage of larger-than-life dinosaur exhibits but a new installation coming in January will surpass them all. A cast of a 122-foot-long dinosaur is so huge its neck and head will reach out toward the elevator banks on the fourth floor where it'll be installed. By comparison, the museum's popular Tyrannosaurus rex is 39 feet long.
